A light-filled living space with a classic look
Mr and Mrs Hayes wanted to add a spacious, elegant room to the back of their red-brick Lincoln home, one they could use for relaxing and working. An orangery was the perfect fit. It feels as solid as a traditional extension but brings in far more light.
The design
We built the orangery on red-brick dwarf walls chosen to match the house. The soft sage green frames have Georgian bars on the top lights and decorative fluted corner posts, and a deep cornice runs around the roofline. Panelled French doors open onto the garden.
Inside, a plastered ceiling with spotlights frames a large glazed roof lantern. That gives the room the cosy feel of an extension, with sunlight flooding in through the middle.
The results
The finished orangery is a calm, bright space with views across the garden. Mr and Mrs Hayes now use it as a lounge and a home office. The classic detailing and matching brickwork mean it looks like it has always been part of the house. It’s covered by our 10-year in-house guarantee.
