What's the difference between an orangery and a conservatory?
A uPVC orangery is normally defined as a mainly brick structure with flat roof and roof lantern(s). Orangeries look more like extension rather than a conservatory. Furthermore, a conservatory is a mainly glass structure with a pitched roof and comprising of over 75% glass. As a conservatory and orangery specialist, Spire Windows will help you decide which structure is best for you.
Is an orangery cheaper than an extension?
Generally, an orangery will be cheaper than an extension as they do not take as long to build and don’t always require planning permission and building regulations. Furthermore, unlike building an extension, Spire Windows take care of every stage of the orangery build so there’s no need for you to project manage or involve multiple trades which can prove timely, expensive and stressful.
Do I need foundations for an orangery?
Without the correct foundation an orangery could start to shift or move which could distort the structure and affect its permeability – movement and water egress could cause catastrophic damage. Spire Windows use experienced builders who will construct orangeries to high standards, ensuring the correct foundation depth. Soil type, condition of the ground and surroundings can all influence foundation depth. Spire Windows have many years’ experience in construction so you can rest assured your orangery will be built taking all factors into account.
